Nokia to deliver GPRS equipment for Bee Line GSM

Vympelcom and Nokia have announced that the Finnish vendor will supply GPRS equipment for the Bee Line GSM network in the Moscow and central regions of Russia. The equipment, utilizing the General Packet Radio Service protocol, enables wireless data transmission at up to 115 kbps. Next month the partners plan to build a pilot zone for testing GPRS services in Moscow, looking to put them into commercial operation in the third quarter of this year. Also this year, GPRS is to be implemented on Vympelcom’s network in Voronezh. Other plans of Vympelcom for the introduction of new technologies on its network include the implementation of WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) in the second or the third quarter of this year.
